Gun shots rang out in downtown St. Thomas Tuesday afternoon as the driver of a car attempted to flee from police.

Around 4:45 p.m., St. Thomas police witnessed a drug deal taking place between two vehicles in the Giant Tiger parking lot on Talbot Street.

When a cruiser arrived at the scene one of the vehicles, a pickup truck, attempted to leave but was quickly stopped. The two occupants of the truck were arrested.

As officers approached the second vehicle, the driver hit the gas and drove directly at them. One of the officers in the path of the vehicle reportedly drew his pistol and fired at the car.

The car eventually ended its flight from police in a parking lot where it slammed into a fence. The two occupants of the vehicle were immediately arrested without further incident.

Police seized a quantity of cash and approximately $10,000 worth of drugs.

The two men in the pickup truck, both from St. Thomas, are facing possession charges, as is the passenger of the car.

The driver of the car is facing a long list of charges including attempted murder.
