Daughter of long-time police officer Marino Gazzola will be laid to rest this week.

A funeral and vigil for Jenna Gazzola will be taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gazzola, 34, was found dead in her Hamilton apartment on April 18, 2016.

A 27-year-old man who lived in the same building as her has been charged with first degree murder in her death.

Guelph native, Gazzola was a teacher in Hamilton. She went to St. James Highschool. Her father is a well known police officer in the city.

He has been with the police service for about 40 years and is an active member of the Wellington Catholic District School Board.

In an obituary posted on the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son’s Funeral Home website, Jenna Gazzola is described as “a bright and beautiful girl from the moment she arrived, with an infectious smile, a brilliant wit and a sparkling sense of humour.”

The obituary continues to read “She was a loyal and generous friend, with many lasting friendships from every phase of her life, a wonderful daughter and sister. She lived for her family – especially her nieces and nephew, and her puppies – traveling home from Hamilton to see them whenever she could.”

Her family will receive friends at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home on April 26, 2016 from 7:00 p.m – 9:00 pm and on April 27, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. There will also be a vigil held on Wednesday night at 8:45 p.m.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday, April 27, 2016 at Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate. The service is open to the public but her burial will be a private affair.
