Flood warnings have been issued and flood watches expanded along parts of the Grand River watershed.

The Grand River Conservation Authority issued that information in a flooding bulletin Monday, citing mild temperatures and a forecast of rain.

In Cambridge, officials warn that overnight rainfall will lead the Speed River to flow above capacity, likely flooding Black Bridge Road and the walking trail under Highway 401.

Also being watched closely is the Nith River, where a Level 1 flood warning is in place for Milton and Jacob streets in New Hamburg as well as Tannery and Piper streets in Ayr.

The GRCA says depending on the amount of rainfall Monday night and into Tuesday, flooding along the Nith could reach Level 2.

Residents in affected areas are warned not to park vehicles in low-lying areas.

The flood watch covers a larger area, with ice jams potentially causing flooding above reseveoirs in Drayton, Upper Belwood and Grand Valley.

Low-lying areas along the Grand, Nith, Conestogo and Speed rivers will likely also experience flooding.

The low-level bridge on Three Bridges Road has been closed upstream of St. Jacobs.

Flooding is also possible Tuesday at Six Nations Fourth Line and Bateman Line, and Wednesday at Grand River Sports Road in Haldimand County, the GRCA says.

Looking further ahead, the GRCA says the remaining snow pack could melt along the upper watershed later this week as temperatures hit the low teens – which could lead to further flooding over the weekend.

Across the watershed, riverbanks are expected to be slippery and hazardous to any people or pets walking in the area.
