Friends and family of Beau Baker continue to grieve for the 20-year-old man shot and killed Thursday evening.
“He was a great guy. I treated him like he was my older brother. I loved him very much,” said Eric Boterman, a friend of Baker’s.
A small memorial has grown out side of the Brybeck apartment building where Baker lived.
“He wouldn't have hurt anyone. He was the sweetest guy,” Angelica Coulis, said of her friend Baker.
“He was loved by very many. He would give his shirt of his back for anybody that needed it. He defended the ones that needed to be protected,” said Baker’s friend Kitty Schnelzer.
Waterloo Regional Police say they were called to the apartment around 9:15 p.m. Thursday by an emotionally distraught man. Police say when they arrived there was an interaction between police and a man, and he was shot. No other details were given.
The province’s special investigation unit has taken over the investigation. They did not respond to CTV’s requests for interviews.
“Everybody that has known Beau knows that shouldn't have happened. The cops shouldn't have done what they did,” Schnelzer said.
Neighbours are holding a candlelight vigil at Baker’s home at 77 Brybeck Crescent in Kitchener at 8:30 p.m. Monday. There will also be a peaceful demonstration at Kitchener City Hall against police brutality at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
