Former Mayor of Woolwich Township Todd Cowan faces fraud and breach of trust charges, however his case became even more problematic this week.

Cowan had a court date earlier in the week but failed to show up despite the fact that his lawyer tried to contact him thirty times.

On Tuesday the Justice of the Peace issued an arrest warrant for him. On Friday, the former Mayor turned himself in.

Cowan was arrested at the Kitchener courthouse and spent part of the afternoon in handcuffs.

Around 4:00 p.m. the Justice of the Peace let him go on $1,000 bail.

Cowan tells CTV News it was simply a date mix-up and he had a personal issue to deal with out of town.

“It’s unfortunate I missed the court date but things are good to go and we’re back on track now,” says Cowan.
