One person is dead following a collision on Highway 401 in Oxford County.

OPP say a tire came off an eastbound truck near the Putnam Road exit, west of Ingersoll, and flew onto the other side of the highway around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Once there, the tire crashed through the windshield of a westbound car, killing its driver.

“The tractor-trailer just continued driving after the tire came off of the vehicle,” OPP Const. Lisa Narancsik said, adding that the vehicle was later located and the driver spoke with police.

Police identified the driver of the car later in the day as Kimberley Coordes, a 50-year-old resident of South-West Oxford.

All westbound lanes of the highway remained closed until shortly before 11:30 a.m.

Police continue to investigate.
