A campaign termed 'ugly' and 'divisive' by some observers ended with a change in Guelph's mayoralty.

With all polls reporting, first-term councillor Cam Guthrie had 50.8 per cent of the vote, compared to 36.6 per cent for Farbridge.

Their months-long battle had been marked by accusations of dirty politics on both sides, complaints about 'sexist' behaviour, and differences over issues like the Urbacon payout and transit worker lockout.

“There are always issues that come up, and you can’t control that. They are what they are, and you have to lead through them,” Farbridge told CTV News.

The only other candidate to have more than 1 per cent of the vote as of 10:00 p.m. was Jason Blokhuis, who was sitting at 10.3 per cent.
