A building official with the City of Kitchener has been called in to inspect a low-rise apartment building on Balfour Crescent after a piece of brick fell from the outside wall and hit someone Tuesday night.

The city's chief building official inspected the structure. Mike Seiling says the weather may be to blame for moisture build-up that's been loosening the bricks.

"It appears that the moisture's been getting into the brick wall for quite some time, and as a result of the freezing cold temperatures mixed with the rain we had yesterday, that one of the brick faces has popped off, and it unfortunately hit someone that was walking by." Seiling said.

An official with the Kitchener Fire Department says the man hit with the brick has a cut on his head but wasn't taken to hospital.
