For the first time in decades, a stretch of Erb Street in uptown Waterloo will welcome two-way traffic this summer.

Regional officials say the section of Erb between King and Caroline streets will be adapted to carry vehicle in both directions.

That will allow access to the parking lot on the north side of Waterloo Town Square, which would have otherwise been virtually inaccessible once construction closed the intersection of Erb and Caroline.

The two-way Erb Street is expected to be ready for Monday, when the Erb/Caroline intersection closes.

As a result, Albert Street will be closed off in such a way that it cannot be accessed from Erb.

Construction at Erb and Caroline is expected to last for approximately four months.
