A 19-year-old man stands accused of killing his grandmother inside their Mount Forest apartment.
Early Sunday morning, Dillan Dart says, he was at home with his grandparents when one of his brothers came home angry and began choking his grandfather.
“I grabbed him (and) ripped him off my grandpa,” Dart said Thursday.
“Things escalated. He grabbed a frying pan and threw it at my grandma.”
Three people were taken to hospital as a result of the altercation – including Dart’s brother, Ryan Ives, and grandmother Joan Dinsmore, who died of her injuries Tuesday.
Ives now faces charges of manslaughter, assault causing bodily harm, threatening to cause death, assault and mischief, as well as six counts of assault with a weapon.
Dart remembers his grandmother as a kind woman who will be dearly missed.
“She was always caring – always had a smile on her face,” he said.
Neighbours of their King Street complex expressed similar sentiments.
“She was very friendly,” Kim Wilson told CTV News.
“She was a good grandmother. She would do anything for her grandchildren.”
Ives remains in custody, with a bail hearing expected in mid-May.
