Perhaps the most significant detour of Kitchener’s 2016 construction season is now in effect.
The intersection of King and Victoria streets is now off-limits to drivers, as is the entire stretch of Victoria between Duke and Joseph streets.
CTV cameras found a number of drivers caught off-guard by Wednesday’s closure and forced to make U-turns – including seven in one 30-second stretch alone.
The Region of Waterloo recommends that traffic use Weber, Water and Joseph streets as a detour around the closure.
Elsewhere in downtown Kitchener, closures remain in effect on parts of King and Duke streets, while a stretch of Charles Street is only open to westbound traffic.
Victoria is expected to reopen at the end of September. When it is open, it is used by approximately 20,000 vehicles per day.
