The death of a 24-year-old woman at a Brantford construction site will be investigated by a coroner’s inquest.

The Ministry of Community and Correctional Services announced Thursday that an inquest into the death of Rebecca Smith will begin next week.

Smith was killed at a Mohawk Street industrial complex in November 2012, after falling through a skylight and plunging more than six metres.

At the time, she was part of a crew working on the building’s roof.

Last fall, a company also known as Innovative Industries pleaded guilty to breaching the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The company was fined $80,000 for not taking reasonable precautions to protect workers’ safety, including not erecting guardrails or other barriers to block workers from the skylight.
