City officials in Guelph say they’re on track to finish cleaning up an old landfill and resuming work on the Paisley-Clythe water main by early June.
By now, it’s been nearly nine months since work stopped at the Wellington Street site due to the discovery of eight drums buried under the site.
Tests determined that the drums contained chemicals commonly used in fuels, solvents and manufacturing processes.
The drums were removed, and a plan created to get at whatever else was buried.
In recent weeks, a further 21 drums have been pulled out, city officials said Thursday in a press release.
Two of the drums were partially filled with liquid, and one other one contained liquids and solids.
Air quality is closely being monitored around the site, the press release said.
