Walpole Island Police have charged Owen Francis Myers, 27, of Port Lambton with two counts of criminal negligence causing death in the fatal accident.

Myers was involved in an incident around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday that led to the deaths of two people.

A GMC SUV, apparently trying to back into a driveway on Altiman Road, rolled into a water-filled ditch.

Three people were able to get out of the vehicle while three others were trapped in the rear seat.

Local firefighters were able to free one of the three trapped using the Jaws of Life, but the other two were pronounced dead at the scene.

The four survivors, including the driver, were treated in hospital and released.

Autopsies conducted in London on Monday confirmed the cause of death was consistent with drowning.

The deceased have been identified as Jaclyn Natalie Shipman, 36, and 33-year-old Harold Kris Nahdee, both of Walpole Island.

Myers is expected to appear in court in Sarnia on April 16. The investigation continues.
