A boundary change that parents feared could spell doom for St. Agatha Catholic Elementary School was rejected Tuesday night by Waterloo Catholic District School Board trustees.

Under the proposal, students in Waterloo’s new Clair Hills subdivision off Wilmot Line would have been directed to St. Nicolas Catholic Elementary School in northwest Waterloo instead of to St. Agatha.

But parents said that without the students from Clair Hills, St. Agatha might never again have a population base large enough for the school to be viable.

The issue split trustees, with the decision to send the students to St. Agatha prevailing by a narrow 5-4 margin.

Trustees also voted to undertake an accommodation review this fall, looking at St. Agatha and other rural schools in the northwest part of Waterloo Region.
