Bryan Larkin has been officially sworn in as the seventh police chief of the Waterloo Regional Police Services.

This is where I started my career, and this is where I plan to finish my career as a chief. It’s a dream come true,” Larkin says of being back in Waterloo Region.

Larkin started with WRPS in 1991, filling several different roles before leaving in 2011 to work for Guelph Police. He became police chief in Guelph in 2012.

“Guelph was an incredible part of my journey, and I really enjoyed every minute of it,” he said.

Larkin has signed a five year contract with WRPS. The police board announced that Larkin would be the new chief in July.

“I don’t think there was a big surprise that Bryan Larkin was chosen as chief of police,” said Matt Torigian.

Larkin takes over from Torigian, who left the position for a new job at Queen’s Park as deputy minister for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services earlier this year.

Larkin says he will focus on making change and moving service forward.

“My mantra is everyone matters, in the organization it does not matter what role you play in the organization, you have an important function to make us work. In the community everybody matters. It’s about quality of life for all,” he said.
