The body found Thursday afternoon in Victoria Park has been identified as a 50-year-old Kitchener man.

Waterloo Regional Police say they continue to treat the death of Mark James McCreadie as suspicious, with homicide detectives leading the investigation.

McCreadie’s body was found by a passerby Thursday in a wooded area on the west side of the park, near the Henry Sturm Greenway.

It’s not clear how long it had been there, and police say there were no significant signs of blunt trauma.

A post-mortem examination took place Friday in Hamilton, but results were inconclusive and another examination will be scheduled.

“Once we find out more, we’ll go from there,” Staff Sgt. John Goodman tells CTV News.

Investigators were back at the park Friday, performing a grid search on an expanded area that included the playground structure.

People enjoying the park on Friday say they consider it a safe area, despite occasional outbreaks of violence either in the park or on the neighbouring Iron Horse Trail.

“It does have a bad reputation. I don’t think it’s deserved,” says Patrice Leentjes.

Police say they still want to hear from anyone with information about what may have led to McCreadie’s death.
