Officials with the Avon Maitland District School Board say they’ve reached a tentative deal with the union representing their high school teachers.

In a press release issued Thursday, AMDSB director of education Ted Doherty said he was “very pleased” by the deal.

“Both parties worked extremely hard to reach this deal and should be commended for their collective problem solving,” he said.

For his part, OSSTF District 8 bargaining unit president Jeff Denys said the deal was the culmination of “a productive exchange of ideas.”

The contract was the first to be reached at the AMDSB under the province’s new two-tier bargaining process, in which certain issues are negotiated provincially and others with local schools boards.

The deal must still be ratified by union members.
