It was a frightening scene for drivers in Guelph, as a sinkhole opened up in the middle of Victoria Road North Saturday afternoon.

The hole was about five and a half feet wide and over 20 feet deep. Crews say a culvert beneath the road collapsed, causing the road above to cave in.

While construction crews were able to fill in the sinkhole, the road is expected to be closed from Goldenview Drive to Conservation Drive for a week while the area is repaired and inspected.
