A reported sexual assault case involving a woman being knocked unconscious as she was leaving her car did not actually happen, Brantford Police say.
Police had alleged that the attack happened shortly after midnight last Friday, after a 20-year-old woman parked her car in a driveway on Dalhousie Street, between Alfred Street and Park Avenue.
While exiting her car, it was believed the woman was grabbed from behind, thrown against the car with enough force to be knocked unconscious, and then sexually assaulted.
Police now say that the incident did not actually take place.
“Investigators have factually established through the course of this investigation that a crime did not occur,” Brantford Police said Monday in a news release.
“While this update may ease concerns and anxiety of the community … the Brantford Police Service still wish to remind the community to be aware of their surroundings.”
