Two people are facing charges after allegedly selling 30 counterfeit tickets to Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest.
Waterloo Regional Police say a 31-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man are charged with fraud, forgery and breach of probation.
The tickets were allegedly sold online for an amount aroudn their face value, and claimed to be for the Concordia Club on the night of Oct. 17.
Police became involved after people attempted to get into the hall with the tickets.
“We were able to retrace their steps, and then identify these people who were selling these tickets,” police spokesperson Alana Holtom said Thursday.
Telltale signs differentiating the fraudulent tickets from authentic ones included the absence of a holographic seal or checkerboard-patterned background seen on real tickets.
Police recommend that Oktoberfest tickets only be bought through certified vendors.
