A 25-year-old man from Central Huron will be in police custody at least until Friday after a crime spree in Huron County Wednesday.

Police were called to a Saltford Road home around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon when a possible impaired driver was reported.  The caller said that a vehicle had parked on the front lawn of their home.  When the driver attempted to leave, the car was unable to start because of extensive damage to the engine.  The driver was said to be walking from the scene carrying a case of beer.

Huron County OPP found a man matching the description in the area. Officers believed the man was under the influence of alcohol, although he later refused to provide a breath sample.

As the investigation into the initial call developed, police say the man is suspected to be involved in a crime spree that began earlier in the day in Clinton.

Police say the man started off stealing a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was left unlocked at a business on Huron Street in Clinton.  He drove to a residence on Highway 21 where he broke in and stole a case of beer.  He left the pickup truck there and stole a car.  The car was later spotted in several locations spinning the tires of people’s front lawns on Westmount Line north of Goderich.  It was not far from there that the car came to a rest on the lawn of the residence on Saltford Road.

The man is facing several charges including two counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Break & Enter, Impaired Driving, four counts of mischief under $5,000, Driving under Suspension and Refuse to Provide Breath Sample.

He will make a video court appearance Friday.
