A section of Bleams Road west of Kitchener was closed Monday afternoon as firefighters battled a barn fire.

Firefighters were called to a property on Bleams, just west of the village on Mannheim, shortly after 3 p.m.

A resident of the property said that the barn contained tools and other items, but no animals.

“The only one that would have been there would have been our family dog, but he’s OK,” said Ainsley Bearinger.

Firefighters said the wind was sending flames and heat toward a house on the property – to the point where some of its windows were shattered – but they were able to prevent the house from being damaged any further.
