A security guard at a Guelph bar was attacked by a man he had just ejected from the bar, police say.

The incident took place shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a downtown bar.

Guelph Police say the 23-year-old man was ejected from the bar, at which point he and another man pushed the guard, knocking him to the ground, and punched him.

The scuffle was broken up by people gathered nearby, and the 23-year-old was held until police could arrive.

Mitchell Thomas, an Acton resident, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The security guard was taken to hospital for treatment.
