Waterloo Regional Police say two men; one armed with a gun, robbed a Hasty Market convenience store in Kitchener and both men wore witch Halloween masks to conceal their identities.

The incident happened on Kingsway Drive at around 1:30 am Saturday.

Police say the man with the gun demanded money and cigarettes. The male cashier who was working alone overnight was assaulted during the robbery, but wasn’t badly hurt.

As for the weapon used in the robbery, Detective Blair Slade says they are still investigating.

“At this point we can't determine anything about the firearm but as a police service and as a community we take all firearm offenses seriously.”

According to police the first suspect is described as 5'9 to 5'10, has a skinny build and is wearing a white jacket, black Adidas track pants with white stripes on the side and beige boots.

The second suspect is described as 5'10 to 5'11 with a skinny build wearing a black puffy jacket, black pants and black shoes and both wore witch masks.

Hasty Market shopper Loretta Legge says she is shocked to hear what happened.

“I come over to this market quite a bit... It's not a good thing in the neighbourhood a lot of people live across the street...a lot of elderly people and stuff... like it's scary."

Police were also quick to remind people, if they ever find themselves in a similar situation, stay as calm as possible.

“Cooperate with the suspects and make as many detailed observations as they can during the incident.” says Slade.
