A Barrie woman is accused of passing counterfeit $20 bills at various businesses in Waterloo Region.

Waterloo Regional Police say that Jenna Marie McArthur, 29, was arrested Monday at a location within the region and charged with 10 counts of uttering counterfeit money.

“The investigation’s still ongoing. There are probably more victims,” Sgt. Rob Cowan tells CTV News.

Earlier this month, police said fake paper $20 and $100 bills were popping up at business in Waterloo Region, particularly in areas near Highway 401.

Police believe the woman used counterfeit banknotes – Canadian and American – at 15 or more Waterloo Region businesses between August and December.

Gas stations, convenience stores, and grocery stores were among the locations where fake bills were reported.

Cowan says the money in this case wasn’t as sophisticated as some of the counterfeits police have come across.

“From my experience they were poor quality, produced in a quick fashion,” he says.
