The same system that produced a tornado near Mildmay last week also caused one to the southeast, Environment Canada says.

One day after storms moved through the area on May 13, the agency confirmed that Ontario’s first tornado of 2014 touched down near Mildmay, causing damage to one house, two barns, trees and hydro poles.

Thursday night, they announced that an EF-0 tornado – with winds between 90 and 130 km/h, the same range as the Mildmay event – also touched down in the Listowel area around the same time.

Volunteer storm spotters saw the tornado touch down in an area southeast of Listowel and south of Conestogo Lake.

Although the tornado stayed on the ground for approximately eight kilometres, no damage was reported.
