If a week full of rain and occasional thunderstorms weren’t enough, freezing rain and snow could be on the menu for the next few days.

A number of weather watches and warnings are in effect across southwestern Ontario.

A freezing rain warning is in place for Wellington, Brant, Oxford and Middlesex counties, as well as Waterloo Region, London, and areas to the east.

Environment Canada says periodic rain and occasional thunderstorms will continue to make their presence felt in the area Wednesday evening, but colder air will arrive overnight and mix with an approaching low front, bringing ice pellets and freezing rain into the region.

The messy mix, occasionally accompanied by thunder, is expected to continue through the day and well into Thursday night.

The precipitation is expected to make the Thursday morning and evening commutes challenging, with icy conditions on local roads.

Grey and Bruce counties are under a winter storm warning, with snow, freezing rain and ice pellets expected to fall beginning Thursday.

Regions in the extreme south of the province, including Windsor, Sarnia, London, Brantford and surrounding areas, are under a rainfall warning, with between 50 and 80 millimetres of rain expected before Friday.

The Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board say administration of the provincial literacy test to Grade 10 students will be postponed if any buses serving their schools are cancelled Thursday.
