Waterloo Regional Police are hoping a unique tattoo helps them identify a woman whose body was found in the Grand River.

A group of teens found the body in the river, near Riverbend Drive and the Walter Bean Trail in Kitchener, around 4 p.m. Friday.

“It appears to be the body of a female, 20 to 50 years in age,” says Insp. Mark Bullock.

Police say they have reason to believe foul play is involved in the woman’s death.

The identity of the woman is not known, but police say she has an unusual tattoo pattern on her torso.

“It’s very distinctive, almost a constellation of stars,” says Bullock.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today in Hamilton.

Anyone who recognizes the tattoo or has other information is asked to contact police at 519-650-8500 ext. 8642.
