The Stratford Festival released its 2016 lineup this week, with a number of shows slated to commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
The playbill features productions of As You Like It and Macbeth, as well as the North American premier of Shakespeare in Love.
Additionally, the festival will host the world premiere of Breath of Kings, a two-part exploration of Shakespeare’s work created by actor Graham Abbey.
Artistic director Antoni Cimolino says the theme of the festival’s 2016 edition will be ‘After the Victory’.
“Our 2016 season will look at victories of all kinds – military, personal, spiritual, moral – and explore what we mean by victory – over others, over adversity, over our own complex and imperfect human nature,” he said in a press release.
Aside from Shakespeare, the playbill features a new version of A Chorus Line directed and choreographed by Donna Feore, the world premiere of Hanna Moscovitch’s Bunny, and popular classics like All My Sons and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Tickets for the season will go on sale to the general public next January.
