A 36-year-old man is charged with mischief, trespassing and endangering safety after alleged jumping over a fence and walking onto a plane at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

Waterloo Regional Police say the man first tried to get onto the tarmac around 5 p.m. Thursday, from inside the terminal.

When that failed, he allegedly jumped a barbed wire fence and moved across the runway, after which he got into the backseat of a small plane.

There were two other people on the plane at the time, including the pilot – who drove the plane toward its hangar.

At that point, police say, the man got off the plane and was placed under arrest.

According to police, the St. Catharines resident appeared to be distraught and upset at the time.
