A police search of Laurel Creek Conservation Area failed to determine why nearby residents heard gunshots.
Waterloo Regional Police responded to the area around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after multiple residents reported hearing two loud noises similar to gunshots near Westmount Road and Northfield Drive.
A search of the area was conducted, including use of a canine unit, but nothing suspicious was found.
As the search took place, residents were blocked from entering the park, and those inside were told to leave.
A 27-year-old Waterloo man was detained by police but later released unconditionally.
