Waterloo regional police say remains found on Wednesday are that of 75-year-old Samuel Houston.
The Kitchener man's disappearance led to an extensive police search earlier this month.
The body was found in a wooded spot near the Grand River by Wellington Street and Shirley Avenue late Wednesday afternoon.
Police launched a search for Houston after he left his home on foot the morning of August 10th and never came back.
A command post was set up as officers checked trails, plazas, businesses and neighbourhoods, starting around the Stanley park area where he lived.
Police are not releasing any details about the cause of death other than saying that it isn't considered suspicious.
A private family funeral is planned for early next week. Police are thanking the community for their help.
