Police in Brantford are asking the public for help as they investigate the city’s second murder of the year.

Jeffrey Roberts, 45, was found dead Monday by somebody walking behind Craig Street, near the Highway 403 underpass at West Street.

He had been reported missing on Nov. 11.

At this point, the last confirmed sighting of Roberts while he was alive came on Nov. 5.

On that day, police say, he was doing something he did often – riding his bicycle around downtown Brantford.

His bicycle, which typically had a small trailer attached to it, hasn’t been found.

Police say they want to hear from anyone who knows where it might be, as well as anyone who may have seen Roberts on or after Nov. 5, or anyone else who might have information that can help piece together his final days.

“We want to know who he was talking to, where he was heading,” Const. Natalie Laing said in an interview.

They’re also interested in talking to anyone who has surveillance cameras facing city streets – even if they don’t think the cameras captured anything of interest – and will be canvassing buildings in the area.

“We’re going to be contacting businesses in the area, just to see if there are any employees there who might have seen anything,” Laing said.

An autopsy on Roberts’ remains found what Laing described as “obvious signs of trauma,” which led police to the conclusion that he was murdered.

The investigation into Roberts’ death has led police to a home on Darling Street, near Clarence Street.

A police car was seen sitting outside of the home on Wednesday.
