Three days after human remains were found outside a Kitchener apartment building – not far from the home of alleged murder victim Kate Lynn Reid – police remained at the site, guarding the scene.

The remains are expected to undergo an autopsy Tuesday.

After that, police say they’ll be in a better position to say whether the remains are connected to Reid’s disappearance.

The 52-year-old was last seen in early January, and reported missing later that month.

Her roommate, Hugh McColl, was arrested earlier this month and charged with second-degree murder.

Last Friday, human remains were discovered outside their apartment building, on Burn Place.

Rick Sullivan, who also lived in the building, says another neighbour was cleaning up the property when he came across a plastic bag hidden underneath branches and snow, and told Sullivan about it.

“I immediately knew that we had found something awful,” he said.

The body itself was not visible, Sullivan said, because it was covered in plastic.

After the discovery was made public, others stopped by to leave flowers at the site.

Karen Dobson visited the building Monday and placed a teddy bear among the flowers, in memory of her friend Reid.

“I just want her to know, if she’s looking down, that we love her,” she said.
