Cross-examination of Dellen Millard’s former roommate continued Wednesday at the murder trial of Millard and Mark Smich.

The two men are accused of killing Hamilton resident Tim Bosma, who disappeared on May 6, 2013, after taking two strangers to test drive his black pickup truck.

They have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Wednesday was the second day on the stand for Andrew Michalski, who lived with Millard up until his arrest.

Under cross-examination from one of Millard’s lawyers, Michalski said that Millard had made it clear to him he planned to steal a black pickup truck.

Jurors heard that Michalski saw Millard looking at Kijiji ads for Dodge 3500 trucks on several occasions in the six months before Bosma’s deaths, and that his interest in such a truck was “not a secret.”

The lawyer’s questioning then turned to May 4, 2013 – two days before Bosma’s disappearance – when Michalski and Millard had a conversation about a black truck on Millard’s computer screen.

Michalski agreed with the lawyer’s assertions that Millard said he planned to steal the truck.

Jurors then heard about a phone call from Smich to Michalski, in which Michalski described his roommate’s friend as being “panicked,” and in which Smich told Michalski to move drugs out of his and Millard’s house “as quickly as possible.”

In addition to the drugs, Michalski testified, he was asked to get a toolbox off the property.

It also emerged Wednesday that Michalski was arrested in connection with the death of Bosma, but never formally charged in connection with the case.

Under questioning from Smich’s lawyer, Michalski said that he was impressed with Millard’s wealth when they first met, and that the two would often party at Millard’s house.

Jurors heard that the two would also vacation together, with Millard footing the bill – as he also did at times for Michalski’s meals and even clothes.

Michalski is expected to remain on the stand when the trial resumes Thursday.
