An elementary school in Kitchener was placed under a hold-and-secure Thursday morning, after a man was spotted walking across the school yard.

The hold-and-secure – a less serious situation than a lockdown, but one in which nobody is allowed to enter or exit the building – was enacted around 9:30 a.m. at A.R. Kaufman Public School on Chopin Drive.

According to the Waterloo Region District School Board, school officials considered the man suspicious because he was walking across school property while carrying a garbage bag.

Police found the man and determined that there was nothing suspicious about the situation.

The school resumed normal operations after about an hour.
