Dave Levac will return to Queen’s Park for a fifth straight term, as Brant’s incumbent MPP defeated former representative Phil Gillies, running for the PCs, and NDP candidate Alex Felsky.
Since the 2011 election, Levac – a former teacher and principal – has served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Gillies represented the former Brantford riding at Queen’s Park from 1981 to 1987, also serving as minister of skills development.
Brant was created in 1999 from the previous Brantford riding and part of the Brant-Haldimand riding.
Both ridings were held by Progressive Conservatives prior to their dissolution.
Speaking with CTV News after the vote, Levac said he hoped to work with mayors and chiefs in his riding to help build a better community.
