It’s not just the Mayfair Hotel in need of a speedy demolition, Kitchener’s top building official says – the two properties next to it need to come down as well.
The former hotel at the corner of King and Young streets was ordered demolished last month.
Demolition has yet to take place, as the building’s owner works on a demolition plan and heritage advocates fight to save some or all of the 110-year-old property.
Monday, authorities deemed 156 and 158 King Street West to be unsafe and issued their immediate demolition.
According to Mike Seiling, Kitchener’s director of building, a new engineering report revealed a worse situation inside the properties.
Their owner has been given until Friday afternoon to submit a demolition plan.
Since the demolition order for the Mayfair was issued, fencing was installed on Young Street to block off the Mayfair.
Similar hoarding is expected to go up along King.
