A home along Hammond Road in Brant County has been completely destroyed by a fire on Saturday night.

Fire officials say they responded to a call at 10 p.m. about fire alarms ringing at 19 Hammond Road. Shortly after, the call was upgraded to a structure fire. Brant County Fire Department sent both Cainsville and Onondaga stations to the scene.

By the time crews arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.

"The house was fully involved. The propane tanks right next to the home for heating had flames shooting out of there," says Brant County Fire Chief Paul Boissoneault.

The fire department had to call in tanker support because there were no fire hydrants on the rural road. At the peak of the blaze 35 fire fighters were involved.

OPP closed off Hammond Road until 2:30 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. Two dogs were inside the home. However, they were rescued by neighbors.

Fire officials say there was substantial damage, with only parts of the garage still standing.

Two vehicles that were parked in the driveway were also damaged. It is believed another vehicle was in the garage. Total value of the damage is still being assessed.

Fire officials say they are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.

The home was a raised bungalow in a rural community.
