County of Brant firefighters battled a house fire on Governors Road East on Sunday afternoon.

The structure fire call went out to three stations in St. George and Paris around 1:30 p.m.

The initial call said the flames started in the basement, but the flames were well underway when crews arrived.

Governors Road was shut down between Highway 24 and Clark Side Road.

The fire has been put out; however crews remain on scene for any potential flare ups.

Neither a cause nor damage estimate has been determined but provincial police say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

No humans were injured.

“Unfortunately one or two of the family pets did not survive, and that’s unfortunate, but everyone at the home was out at the time the fire occurred,” says Tom Waldschmidt, Fire Prevention Officer with the County of Brant.
