A constable with the Hanover Police Service has been dismissed from duty because of charges of discreditable conduct and insubordination.
Police Chief Christopher Knoll announced in a press release Tuesday morning that Constable Robin Paige was dismissed from the force at a Police Services Act hearing Friday in Hanover.
The allegations stemmed from an incident on January 19, 2015. Constable Paige was believed to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty and refused to obey an order by his supervisor to provide a breath sample. He was charged with discreditable conduct and insubordination.
After a Police Services Act hearing was concluded in July of last year, the officer was found guilty of both misconduct charges on October 15. Sentencing was held in January. The dismissal from service was effective as of Friday, April 15. Constable Paige had been with the force since May, 2001.
Constable Paige remained on paid leave from January 19 of last year until last Friday, the date of his dismissal.
“The Hanover Police Service recognizes that these professional misconduct matters will be upsetting to members of the public.” the press release from Chief Knoll said. “We want to reassure our citizens and visitors that we are an open, honest and transparent policing organization that continually strives to provide effective, efficient and professional policing to the people that we serve.”
