The Ontario Special Olympics kick off today in Guelph.
Over 900 athletes from across the province will be in the Royal City to participate in the games.
Tonight the torch run starts at the University of Guelph’s Johnston Green at around 5:45 p.m. and makes its way through the city to the Sleeman Centre in downtown for the 7:30 p.m. opening ceremonies.
Approximately 150 runners will carry the torch, escorted by police to the Special Olympics flame at the opening ceremonies.
Before the official opening of the games, swimmers will take to the water Thursday afternoon, competing between 2:30 and 4:00 at the U of G pool.
The weekend will be jammed packed with six different sports including basketball, powerlifting and rhythmic gymnastics. Locations for the events are spread across various spots in Guelph.
An event schedule can be found on the Special Olympics website.
