Members of the Guelph Amateur Radio Club gathered around a transceiver at the birthplace of John McCrae in Guelph on Thursday.
They were sending out messages of remembrance; telling listeners about the McCrae House and about his famous war poem In Flanders Fields.
Amateur radio, or ham radio, is a popular hobby enjoyed by enthusiasts around the world.
As part of Remembrace Week, club members are using the medium to remind listeners to think of the fallen.
“We were able to make contacts from as far away as Florida and West Virginia,” says amateur radio operator Wes Snarr
“It’s the pleasure of making contact with someone that perhaps you probably haven’t and making the acquaintance.”
Members of the Guelph Amateur Radio Club will be at John McCrae House again on Nov. 11 sending and receiving messages.
