Four people were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire Tuesday night.
Guelph Fire says the fire began in the basement of a home on Hewitt Lane, then spread through a dryer vent to a pile of garbage outside the building.
The home suffered what firefighters termed severe damage, while two other homes in the area received smoke damage.
The investigation into the fire continues.
