Grand River Hospital has declared an outbreak of a gastro-intestinal illness in the north wing of the adult inpatient mental health unit.
Five patients reportedly have symptoms that correspond to a stomach virus, including nausea and diarrhea.
Patients with symptoms are being isolated, aggressive cleaning measures have been put in place and visits to the area have been postponed.
The status of the outbreak will be reviewed in a week, since the unit must be free of new cases for five days before it can be declared over.
People visiting the hospital are reminded to wash and sanitize their hands before, during and after a visit to help prevent transmission.
Anyone with symptoms of a cold, flu or stomach virus are asked not to visit the hospital until they've been symptom-free for two days.
