On four occasions in the past month, a man has walked into a pharmacy in Cambridge, demanded painkiller pills, and escaped before police could arrive.

Waterloo Regional Police believe the same man is responsible for all four thefts.

“Descriptions that were provided to us by witnesses indicate that there are many similarities,” said police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.

The first robbery occurred Dec. 14 at the Shoppers Drug Mart on King Street East.

Ten days later, the Preston Medical Pharmacy on Waterloo Street was hit – followed by the Shoppers Drug Mart on Holiday Inn Drive last week.

Sunday, a fourth robbery occurred – again at the Shoppers on King.

“A number of painkillers were turned over to the male, and then he left the store without any further incident,” Heinzel said.

As with all the prior robberies, the alleged thief’s face was covered, no weapons were seen and nobody was hurt.

All the heists also took place during the afternoon hours, giving police another reason to suspect a connection.

A spokesperson for Shoppers Drug Mart said Sunday’s robbery was “a distressing experience” for the store’s employees.

“We have shared all relevant details with the police and will continue to support their efforts to apprehend those responsible,” Sheamus Murphy said in an email.

Surveillance footage from three of the robberies has been made available.

“We’re hoping that … if people have a look at the images, they may recognize the individual,” Heinzel said.

Police describe the suspect as a white man, about six feet tall and 200 pounds.
