Canada Post strike impacting major Humane Society fundraising campaign
A local organization dedicated to animal wellbeing is feeling the direct impact of the Canada Post strike.
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is in the midst of their Hope for the Holiday campaign. They said it is typically their largest fundraiser of the year and provides money for life-saving care and second chances for animals in need during the holiday season.
However, the annual campaign ran into a roadblock this year after Canada Post workers hit the picket line to fight for a new collective agreement.
The strike is now in week four, and as the holidays draw closer, the humane society is hoping their donors will make the switch to online giving.
The humane society is also still raising money for their $6 million Better Together campaign.
They are hoping to use the funds to build a new Community Outreach Centre, including a Mobile Veterinary Clinic and Pet Pantry.
Although the campaign received a big boost thanks to Taylor Swift fans , as of Friday afternoon, the humane society was sitting at just over half of their goal.
