By the time Doug Craig finishes his next term in office, he'll have held Cambridge's next job for nearly two decades -- and voters are just fine with that.
With all 60 polls reporting, 53.3 per cent of votes were cast for Craig
Immediately trailing him were Linda Whetham with 18 per cent of votes, Andrew Johnson with 11.7 per cent and Sandra Hill with 10.2 per cent.
Craig, a former teacher and city councillor, has been Cambridge's mayor since 2000
"I think what's resonating is the fact people are seeing progress. They're seeing things happening that are important to them," he said.
The mayor also expressed hope that turnover in the ranks of regional council would mean positive changes for Cambridge.
"We need to have a better deal. We need to be an equal partner, not just an add-on," he said.
Cambridge's council saw a significant amount of turnover, with Mike Devine replacing Rick Cowsill in Ward 2, Mike Mann unseating Brian Santos in Ward 3, and Shannon Adshade ousting Gary Price in Ward 6 by a two-vote margin.
In Ward 4, Jan Liggett won the race to replace the departing Ben Tucci..
