A company that calls itself the largest towel manufacturer in Canada is shutting its doors, putting more than 100 people out of work.
Cambridge Towel, which operates out of a plant on Dobbie Drive, has issued layoff notices to unionized workers, according to the head of the union representing those workers.
Carol High says the notices were handed out Monday, with manufacturing workers told they would be out of work in 30 days and shipping workers told they would lose their jobs in 60 days.
The union represents approximately 120 workers. In an interview with CTV News in December 2015, company officials said that they had somewhere between 250 and 300 employees at that point in time.
In addition to producing Cambridge Towel-branded towels that were sold across North America, the plant also manufactured towels which were sold at major retailers under other labels.
